PhotoFiles: How many of these Lincoln bars do you remember? Part 3
Chug, chug, chug! You can do it. We're on the final leg of our bar crawl through Lincoln's thirsty history (thirstory?), and there are sure to be a few more bars, taverns, saloons, taphouses and the like that you can remember. If you haven't had one too many, that is.

Shannon Johnson (left) and Tyson Sherman scope out the crowd over beers at Woody's Pub in 1995. Shall we join them for a drink in Lincoln's past?

Despite the empty beer garden, Oscar's owner at the time was quoted as saying business was booming in 1985. The bar no longer exists.

There was a time before Barry's at 9th and Q streets had a rooftop party area. That time was 1969.

The Drumstick was already a little worse for wear when it closed its doors in 1987.

Johnny's Lounge in 1982 was part bingo parlor and part catered liquor dispensary. It served alcohol on behalf of various tax-exempt organizations.

The Black Coach, pictured in 1968, served steak and cocktails, a perfect combination. But where was it located? …
At the Bar

Oh, yeah! 10th and Arapahoe. Thanks, unnamed 1968 Journal photographer.

God bless America, and the Green Frog, in 1982.

Does anyone remember where Oscars was located? Sign pictured in 1981.

"I'm just going over to the Neighbors, dear." Get it? They did in 1981.
At the Bar

Kilroy's was here in 1980.

Alternative to what? Did they not serve alcohol at Alternative Bar in 1981?

The Sanctuary was a haven for the hungry and thirsty in 1981.

ALERT! The Brass Rail still exists! But this sign from 1981 doesn't, nor does the Kodak store next door. Funny what changes and what stays the same, isn't it?
At the Bar

Terri Watts had a great idea to replace Sweep Left in the Haymarket in 1996. Replace it with an antique mall. Yeah. That'll bring 'em in.
At the Bar

Does anyone remember what this building was called in 1995? It would eventually house The Q and Karma nightclub, which burned down in February 2015. Your humble slideshow guide can't read what the sign says.
At the Bar

Duggan's Pub in its 1995 prime. This bar closed earlier in 2015 and is being replaced by a bar and grill called Cottonwood.

Rockin' Robin in downtown Lincoln, 1995.

Remember when O Street downtown was lined with trees? What a pretty sight in front of the State Theatre (today the Bourbon Theatre) and Morgan's (today the Fat Toad), in 1995.
At the Bar

ALERT! Iguana's still exists! But the signage doesn't, nor the trees. Ah, memories.
At the Bar

Yes, beautiful trees. Where did they go? The Zoo's still there, but why not the trees? Pour one out for the fallen trees.
At the Bar

Enough waxing nostalgic for trees. Pat Masters, co-manager of R.P. Myre's Sportspage deli and grill, takes a break from slinging beers and reubens in 1988.

Some things literally never change. It'd be hard to differentiate this interior shot of the Zoo Bar, taken in 1993, with a similar shot taken today.

Too bad we couldn't get an earlier picture. This is Jim's Tavern in the process of being torn down in 1963.
At the Bar

In 1964, disaster struck Barry's Tavern. Thieves unknown entered through the roof of the bar, cracked open the safe and made off with $538. The bar weathered the loss well and is still open.

What? You want more? Well, I'm sorry, but it's closing time, and you've already had plenty. You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here. Thanks for coming and spending your time with PhotoFiles on our little look-back through Lincoln's thirsty history. Let's do this again sometime, yeah?
