Dining Out: Cowboy Chicken

Cowboy Chicken closed its only Lincoln location on Monday.

Cowboy Chicken announced Monday that it has closed its doors.

The restaurant at 2801 Pine Lake Road Suite J. posted a notice on its door and its Facebook page announcing the closing effective Monday.

Owners Joe and Ronda Armstrong said in the note that the closing decision was made "with a heavy heart," but they felt it was "the only decision we could make for the physical and fiscal health of our family."

Cowboy Chicken, which specializes in wood-fired rotisserie chicken made fresh daily, opened in the shopping center across the street from SouthPointe Pavilions in November 2015.

At the time, it was the company's first restaurant outside of Texas.

The Armstrongs and their partners said at the time that they had franchise rights for Nebraska and Kansas, but it does not appear they opened any other restaurants.

Franchise Restaurant Concepts Group based out of Omaha has opened two Cowboy Chickens in Kansas and one each in Iowa and South Dakota.

In the note, the Armstrongs thanked their customers and said it was them who "helped keep the dream alive as long as it did."
