YORK — A Seward man has been given 60 days in jail for being drunk while operating an aircraft.

Court documents said 55-year-old Colby Bartholomew had pleaded no contest and was sentenced last week.

Bartholomew was taken into custody April 24 after a state trooper and an airport service officer saw strange activity on the runway at the York Municipal Airport.

Court documents said the pair saw an ultralight aircraft enter a ditch near the runway, go back on the runway and then off again, damaging marker lights.

York police responded and talked to the pilot, Bartholomew. Documents said he failed an alcohol test and smelled of liquor.

Court documents said Bartholomew has five DUI convictions for driving a motor vehicle.
