2019 Mental Illness Awareness Week Community Program Lying to Myself: The Ryan Leaf Story Thursday, October 3 6:30-8 p.m. Football was Ryan Leaf’s life, but when the quarterback wasn’t able to handle the pressure of the NFL, his career ended. He struggled with his mental health and began to abuse opioids prescribed for an earlier football injury. Leaf went to prison for breaking into homes to feed his addiction to pain meds, but he used that time for spiritual growth and humility. Today his mission is to inspire others to begin their road to recovery and to demonstrate that a better life is possible.
