Saturday: Lincoln 2, Des Moines 1, SO

What went right: Lincoln goaltender Tomáš Vomacka was the star in Des Moines, Iowa. He stopped 24 of 25 shots in the first three periods, and stopped four more shots in the shootout.

After a scoreless second and third period, the Stars and Buccaneers went to a shootout. Lincoln forward Gustaf Westlund flipped a backhanded shot from the right circle, past Des Moines' Roman Durny to score the first and only goal of the shootout.

Lincoln took advantage of a power-play situation in the first period when Paul Cotter tied the game at 1-1 from the left circle.

What went wrong: Durny as just as good as Vomáčka. The Des Moines goaltender stopped 31 of 32 shots. The Buccaneers also took advantage of a Lincoln turnover nearly one minute into the match, leading to a 1-0 edge for Des Moines.

Next: Lincoln plays Omaha twice next week. The Lancers come to Lincoln on Friday, while the Stars head to Ralston Arena on Saturday.
