Friday: Tri-City 6, Lincoln 1
What went wrong: Despite a strong forecheck in the first 10 minutes of the first period, the Lincoln Stars failed to score a goal after tallying the first six shots of the contest. The Storm scored with 5 minutes left in the first period and never looked back. Tri-City took a 4-0 lead before Lincoln answered with a tally from Gustaf Westlund midway through the third period, but Tyler Ward restored the four-goal lead with his second goal of the third period. Joe Cipollone added a power-play goal, the Storms third of the game, for the sixth goal. In two matchups this season, the Storm have outscored the Stars 9-1.
What went right: Westlund's goal was his third of the season and snapped Tri-City goaltender Filip Larsson's shutout streak against the Stars. Larsson shut out Lincoln last week in a 3-0 victory over Lincoln in Kearney. Collin Peters returned to the Stars lineup after nursing an upper-body injury the last three games, but was plagued by four penalties for 16 minutes in his return.
Next: The Stars host Chicago at the Ice Box on Saturday with a puck drop at 7 p.m.
