Saturday: Lincoln 5, Cedar Rapids 1.
What went right: Eero Teravainen had his second goal in as many nights and Tristan Ashbrook continued his recent hot stretch with a pair of first-period goals to help the Stars to an early 3-0 at the Ice Box. Teravainen, who played overtime hero in Friday's 3-2 win over Waterloo, scored 3 minutes, 26 seconds into the second period as the Stars pulled away with a three-goal second frame. Dominick Mersch and Philippe Lapointe each added power-play goals to give the Stars a 5-0 lead. Ashbrook's pair of first-period tallies marked the third time the forward has scored two goals in his past four games. Tomas Vomacka picked up another win in goal, stopping 25-of-26 chances with a depleted roster as the Stars dressed 18 players to the RoughRiders' 21. Elsewhere in the USHL, Waterloo beat Sioux City 4-3 to move the Stars two points ahead of the Musketeers in the Western Conference standings.
What went wrong: Lincoln was on the verge of pitching what would have been Vomacka's fourth shutout of the season before Nathan Smith gave Cedar Rapids its lone goal unassisted midway through the third period.
Next: Lincoln travels to Dubuque, Iowa, to face the Fighting Saints on Friday before returning to the Ice Box on Saturday against the Omaha Lancers.
