Goaltender Derek Schaedig will rejoin the Lincoln Stars via a trade with the Chicago Steel, the teams announced Tuesday.
Schaedig, who was acquired for a 2018 sixth-round Phase II draft pick, played in four games with the Stars in 2016-17. He finished his stint with Lincoln after serving as a replacement goalie as both Stars' goaltenders Josef Korenar and Cayden Primeau were selected to represent their countries in international competition.
“We are excited to add Derek,” Stars general manager Jon Hull said. “His play last season in Lincoln earned him the opportunity. Having two high-caliber goalies is important, and we feel that Tomáš [Vomáčka] and Derek give us that.”
Schaedig finished with a 1.74 goals-against average and garnered USHL co-goaltender for the week honors after backstopping Lincoln to a victory in his debut against Dubuque Dec. 9. Schaedig turned away 27-of-28 shots he faced.
The Chelsea, Michigan, native was later selected by the Steel in the 2017 Phase II draft as the 14th overall selection.
The Stars open the season on Friday, hosting Muskegon at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice Box.
