After a loss Wednesday, the Lincoln Saltdogs saw their American Association Central Division lead reduced to 3½ games and they still have not clinched a playoff spot.
Fargo-Moorhead shut out the Saltdogs 4-0 at Fargo, North Dakota, putting the Saltdogs' record at 57-37 with five games remaining.
Kansas City, which defeated Sioux City 8-2, is 3½ games behind the Saltdogs in the Central, and Gary SouthShore is 4½ games back after beating Sioux Falls 5-4.
Lincoln and Gary SouthShore play a four-game series starting Friday, a day after Lincoln wraps up its series against Fargo-Moorhead.
On Wednesday, Fargo-Moorhead broke up a scoreless tie with four runs in the bottom of the eighth. Yhoxian Medina hit an RBI single and Chris Grayson followed with a three-run double. All four runs were charged to reliever J.R. Bunda (9-1).
Lincoln starter Seth Webster pitched seven shutout innings, striking out five and allowing five hits, before yielding to Bunda.
Fargo-Moorhead's Tyler Herron held Lincoln scoreless on eight hits through 7.1 innings. Trey McNutt and Casey Weathers got the final five outs, with Weathers striking out the side in the ninth.
Brent Dean and Nathaniel Maggio had two hits each for the Saltdogs. Maggio's double was Lincoln's only extra-base hit.
