The Nebraska women's basketball team will start the season with the highest preseason ranking in school history.

The Huskers will open the season ranked No. 12 in the USA Today Coaches Top 25, which was released Tuesday. Nebraska was ranked No. 19 by USA Today at the beginning of last season.

Last year, the Huskers advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16.

Nebraska is joined by several Big Ten teams in the rankings. Penn State is No. 15, while Michigan is 19th and Purdue is ranked No. 23.

UCLA, Nebraska's first opponent this season, is ranked No. 25. Connecticut is the top-ranked team, followed by Duke and Stanford. Duke eliminated the Huskers from last year's NCAA Tournament with a 53-45 win.

The Huskers host Nebraska-Kearney on Sunday in an exhibition before hosting the Bruins on Friday, Nov. 8.
