Nebraska first-year football coach Scott Frost suddenly has a key vacancy on his recruiting staff.
A team spokesman confirmed that Friday was Husker director of recruiting operations Bob Welton's final day on the job.
According to BamaInsider.com, Nick Saban has hired Welton as player personnel director. Welton reportedly will begin work with the Crimson Tide next week.
Meanwhile, the Nebraska team spokesman said, "We're comfortable with the direction we're headed with the position."
The news comes during the college game's spring evaluation period, with assistant coaches on the road all over America.
Welton becomes the second former Tennessee staffer hired by Alabama this offseason, as the Crimson Tide brought in former Volunteers head coach Butch Jones as an offensive analyst in March.
Welton was hired by Jones at Tennessee in 2013 and spent the last five years leading the Volunteers' recruiting office. He originally remained a part of UT’s staff after former Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt became the Volunteers’ head coach but left in February bound for Nebraska.
Prior to Tennessee, Welton served as a college scout with the Cleveland Browns from 2004-13.
