Nebraska volleyball coach John Cook attended the State of the Union address on Tuesday evening as the guest of United States Sen. Deb Fischer.
After the volleyball team won the national championship last month, Sen. Fischer contacted Cook and invited him to attend as her guest. Cook joined Sen. Fischer for the annual supper in the Capitol before viewing the president’s address in the Senate gallery.
“Coach Cook and the Husker volleyball national champions have taught us all about leadership, excellence, and how to win ‘the Nebraska way.’ I am honored to have him join me for this special and historic occasion,” Sen. Fischer said in a news release.
Cook has led the Huskers to four national championships and 12 conference championships in 18 seasons as the Nebraska head coach.
