Prospect Terrell Newby (5-10, 180, RB) did a lot of damage in a short amount of time as Chaminade Prep of Well Hills, Calif., drilled Los Angeles Cathedral 62-26. In 2 1/2 quarters, Newby ran for 104 yards and six touchdowns on just 12 carries.
"I told Terrell and the rest of the seniors during halftime that they were not going to be in the game for very much longer," Chaminade coach Ed Croson told the LA Daily News. "Thing about Terrell is, he's a special player. In some cases, he doesn't need a lot of time to get the job done."
Recruit Jonathan Cook (5-11, 185, DB) spearheaded a defensive effort that held Mobile Christian to just 103 yards as Spanish Fort (Ala.) won 52-6. Spanish Fort (10-1) is ranked No. 5 in Class 5A.
Recruit Nathan Gerry (6-2, 205, S) and his Sioux Falls (S.D.) Washington teammates earned a trip to the Class 11A state final with a 49-3 victory against Sioux Falls O’Gorman. Gerry caught a 33-yard touchdown pass just three minutes into the game and also scored on a 1-yard run. In addition, he threw a key block to spring teammate Chris Parker on an 88-yard punt return. Washington will play Brandon Valley in the championship game.
Prospect Corey Clement (5-11, 205, RB) of Glassboro (N.J.) announced his commitment to Wisconsin on Friday, then went out and rushed for 283 yards and four touchdowns in a 51-6 victory against Gloucester Catholic.
“Best day of my life,” he told the Philadelphia Inquirer, adding that his decision came down to Wisconsin and Notre Dame. “I want to be that guy. I felt like at Wisconsin, I could be that guy, and at Notre Dame, I would be just another guy.”
Prospect Drake Martinez (6-2, 195, S) rushed for 148 yards and three touchdowns as Laguna Beach (Calif.) held off Costa Mesa 35-28. Martinez also had an interception as the Breakers improved to 9-0-1.
Prospect Priest Willis (6-2, 190, DB) recovered a fumble as Marcos De Niza High of Tempe, Ariz., trounced Laveen Fairfax 49-9 in the first round of the Division II playoffs. The Padres host Scottsdale Chaparral in Friday’s quarterfinals.
Prospect Demorea Stringfellow (6-3, 215, WR) caught two touchdown passes as Moreno Valley (Calif.) Rancho Verde shut out Vista del Lago 42-0.
Prospect Dashon Hunt (5-9, 175, CB) returned a fumble 90 yards for a touchdown as Westlake (Calif.) dropped a 38-35 decision to Moorpark, losing on a last-second field goal.
Prospect Mackensie Alexander (5-11, 185, CB) returned an interception 31 yards for a touchdown and helped Immokalee (Fla.) force seven turnovers in a 50-7 victory against Naples Golden Gate. Alexander’s brother, Mackenro, also had a pick-six.
Prospect Delton Williams (6-2, 200, OLB) ran for 205 yards and scored five touchdowns as Cathedral Prep in Pennsylvania blanked Edinboro General McLane 47-0.
