Matt Davison has been close to the Nebraska football program for several years.

A color analyst on radio for Husker football and basketball games, he's also one of Scott Frost's best friends — a confidante of the new Husker head coach who played an integral role in bringing Frost back to NU.

So, it makes sense that Davison will play a leading role in Frost's program.

A standout Nebraska receiver from 1997-2000, Davison confirmed Sunday he'll join the Husker staff as an associate athletic director for football.

He looks forward to working with both Frost and new Nebraska athletic director Bill Moos.

"I'm going to try to help Bill with everything he needs help with, and I'm going to try to help Scott with everything he needs," Davison said.

Davison, of course, is widely known for his "flea-kicker" reception in Nebraska's 1997 win at Missouri, a triumph that kept alive the Huskers' run to a share of the national championship

"I think I know Nebraska," said Davison, a Tecumseh native. "I've been around here a long time. I was a part of it when Nebraska was great with Scott. I've seen it throughout the course of the last 20 years, too — the ups and downs. If I haven't gathered a lot of knowledge, I shouldn't be in my position.

"I think I can bring some value to things here, but ultimately, Scott is going to be the guy who leads the charge, along with Bill. I'm going to hopefully be a small piece to fill in some gaps and make their lives easier."

Davison said it's unclear whether he'll continue his color-analyst duties with the Husker IMG Sports Network, although he did say it's possible he could. He just completed his 11th season as the football broadcast analyst.

"I've been so excited about just trying to make this day happen, I haven't really thought about next fall at all," he said. "This has all kind of come together quickly."
