LET'S PLAY TWO

Husker recruit Demornay Pierson-El (5-9, 174, ATH) turned in a pair of outstanding performances for West Potomac (Va.) last week.

In a game that was delayed three days because of heavy rains, Pierson-El accounted for six touchdowns in a 47-29 victory against West Springfield. He threw for three touchdowns and ran for 200 yards and three more scores. He was 8-of-16 for 166 yards, including a 57-yard bomb on the first play of the game.

In a 49-22 loss to Lorton South County on Friday, Pierson-El had a 29-yard TD pass and returned an interception 93 yards for a score.

“What they’re trying to make him do is be a quarterback and he’s doing his best imitation right now,” West Potomac coach Jeremiah Davis said. “Everybody knows he’s not a classic trained passer or nothing like that. … He did a good job getting the ball to people in open spots, making the right decision … and taking off and running.”

Nebraska recruited Pierson-El as a slot receiver and kick returner.

BIG FIRST HALF

Recruit Luke Gifford (6-3, 198, S) accounted for 200 yards of offense and three touchdowns in just one half of play as Lincoln Southeast blasted Lincoln Northeast 48-7. Gifford threw two scoring passes and also scored on a 65-yard run. Teammate and fellow Husker recruit DJ Foster (6-3, 312, OL) helped hold LNE to just 20 rushing yards in the first half.
