The Nebraska baseball team's California adventure continued to be a bumpy ride Saturday.

The Huskers were swept by 22nd-ranked Cal State Fullerton in a doubleheader in Fullerton, Calif., falling 10-5 in the opener and 9-0 in the nightcap.

Fullerton ripped off 13 hits in the first game and 11 in the second, as it battered a Husker pitching staff that has given up 28 runs in three games this weekend. That included a 9-4 loss at Cal State Bakersfield on Friday.

The Titans (3-0) scored three runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to defeat Nebraska (0-3) in the first game at Goodwin Field.

Chad Christensen hit an RBI triple, then scored on Pat Kelly's single to give Nebraska a 5-4 lead in the seventh inning. But after Titans tied it with an RBI single, Anthony Hutting hit a pinch-hit, two-run homer off Husker reliever Michael Hoppes to put Fullerton ahead to stay.

Hoppes (0-1) took the loss. Christensen went 3-for-5 with the triple and two RBIs to lead Nebraska.

In the second game, Fullerton freshman Justin Garza was dominant in his first career collegiate appearance on the mound. The right-hander held Nebraska scoreless on two hits and one walk while striking out six in six innings of work. The Titans bullpen held onto the shutout over the final three innings, giving up just two hits.

The Titans got to NU starter Zach Hirsch right away with a pair of singles to start the bottom of the first inning. Both runners came around to score, as the Titans totaled three hits in the inning off the NU lefty. Fullerton surged ahead 5-0 after three innings with three runs on three hits in the third, including a Chad Wallach double.

Fullerton eventually chased Hirsch in the fifth, with Husker coach Darin Erstad turning to freshman Colton Howell with two runners on in his first career appearance at NU. He immediately gave up a two-run single that extended Fullerton’s lead to 7-0. Howell loaded the bases with a pair of walks after that, but then got back-to-back strikeouts to end the threat. The Titans added two more runs against Tyler Niederklein end the scoring.

Nebraska wraps up its opening weekend Sunday with a trip to Dedeaux Field for a 3 p.m. meeting with the USC Trojans.
