Coach: Kendra Craven. 2011 record: 19-13, C-1 state tournament quarterfinals. Outlook: Eight seniors graduated, but the Bluejays have a solid base to build from in returning starters Kirsten Laune (5-7, sr., S), Kaitlynn Thomas (6-0, jr., OH) and Jennifer Klaudt (6-2, sr., RS).
Coach: Steve Petersen. 2011 record: 20-9. Outlook: Six starters graduated from last year’s team, so the Bulldogs will depend on younger players. Senior track star Tierra Williams is a returning starter at MB, while senior L Alexis Nee also started.
Coach: Shelley Palensky. 2011 record: 14-14. Outlook: Five starters are back, which should make the Cavaliers competitive. Four players had more than 100 kills last season — sophomore OH Haley Thiele (140 kills), senior OH Maddie Rew (140), junior MB Kelsey Chapek (121) and 5-11 sophomore MB Katie Reeves (103). Sophomore setters Kelly Dailey and Allison Blum both saw playing time as freshmen.
Coach: Leah McClure. 2011 record: 7-24. Outlook: Four starters back gives optimism for improved record this season. Leading the way are juniors McKenna Obermier (155 kills) and Danielle Martin at OH and seniors Audrey Dreifurst (MB) and Kaylee Chrisman (S).
Coach: Jordan Rettele. 2011 record: 4-25. Outlook: Six seniors are back as returning letterwinners who also have starting experience.
Coach: Ryan Evans. 2011 record: 6-26. Outlook: Experience is a strength as five starters are back for the Jeffs — senior setter Tasha McDaniel, 6-1 junior MB/RS Paige Husa, junior L Kylee Barber, 5-10 sophomore MBs Sidney and Shelby Pollman.
Coach: KT Salberg. 2011 record: 5-27. Outlook: The Tigers should be improved behind a strong sophomore class, three of whom started as freshmen — S Baylee Vrtiska, MB Maygan Ramsey and DS Jillian Lunsford. Senior L Bethany Lampe and junior MB Madison Olberding also started last season.
Coach: Michele Evans. 2011 record: 26-5, No. 6 final ranking. Outlook: The Panthers graduated four key seniors, including all-stater Maggie Malone. Three starters, however, are back — 5-8 senior MB Lindsey Maloley, 5-5 senior S/RS Christa Scott and 5-9 junior OH Audrey Malone.
Coach:Mark Kirlin. 2011 record: 17-13. Outlook: Six return with starting experience -- seniors Morgan Dittberner (MB), Tori Dean (OH), Maddie Shepard (S) and Jordyn Marcoe (MB) and juniors Sam Lane (OH) and McKenna Zahn (L).
Coach: Shanna Meyer. 2011 record: 24-9, No. 10 final ranking. Outlook: The Eagles’ trio of seniors — 5-8 setter Haley Moore (120 kills, 666 assists), 5-11 MB Madison Millikan (200 kills, 76 ace blocks, .300 hitting efficiency) and OH Becca Anderson (181 kills) — are three-year starters. Sophomores Emily Burton (MB), Jensyn Meyer (OH) and junior Ashley Kontor (S) were part-time starters a year ago.
Coach: Chelsea Schleicher. 2011 record: 5-20. Outlook: The Mustangs will build around a pair of returning starters — junior MB Callie Christensen (135 kills in 2011) and senior S Morgan Rezac.
Coach: Angie Morris. 2011 record: 20-7, No. 9 final ranking. Outlook: 5-11 senior Mikaela Shaw (150 kills, 51 ace blocks) moves to middle blocker after being an all-state setter. Three other starters are back — junior OH Morgan Dickson, sophomore RS Taylor Hinrichs and sophomore S Rylee Morris.
Coach: Jacqueline Mohr. 2011 record: 26-6. Outlook: The Rockets are more experienced than a year ago with five starters back — junior S Allison Brinkman, junior DS Julia Reed, senior OH Maggie Dettmer, senior RS Kendall Hallstrom and senior MB Paige Zastera.
Coach: Trisha Larson. 2011 record: 21-11. Outlook: Seniors Darcy Barry (5-5, OH, 188 kills), Caroline Hohl (5-10, MB, 187 kills) and Samantha Grandgenett (5-8, RS, 110 kills) headline five returning letterwinners. Junior setter Laura Barry and junior OH Jessica Krecklow are also starters.
Co-Coaches: Allison Aldrich and Jenna Schuerma. 2011 record: 1-28. Outlook: Nine letterwinners back from last season should make the Wolverines much improved from a year ago.
Coach: Jody Pelan. 2011 record: 11-19. Outlook: Five starters provide a good base of experience — 6-2 senior MB Conner Novacek, senior S/RS Mariah Conyers, senior DS Kirby Pelan, junior S/RS Jorda Beringer and junior OH Becky White.
Coach: Karmen Widick. 2011 record: 3-25. Outlook: Four seniors are among eight returning letterwinners — OH Donnita Helman, OH/L Sarah Vanek, MB Hayley Kouma and OH Mikala Havlovic.
Coach: Pete Vavak. 2011 record: 28-8, C-2 state tournament quarterfinals, No. 10 final ranking. Outlook: 5-10 sophomore OH Hanna Justesen ripped 408 kills as a freshman. Other returning starters are senior RS Lauren Bowman, senior L Lindsay Oehlerking and sophomore S Sheridan Spohr.
Coach: Dani White. 2011 record: 20-10. Outlook: Six-foot sophomore MB Carley Remmers is one of the top returning players in C-2 after having 330 kills and 71 ace blocks as a freshman. Other returning starters are senior OHs Kylie Trobee (249 kills) and Morgan Lenners.
Coach: Kara Engles. 2011 record: 17-9. Outlook: Replacing all-stater Hannah Volker will be a tall order. The Titans will look to senior MB Josie Morehead (164 kills) and junior OH Courtney Allen (98 kills) for offense.
JOHNSON COUNTY CENTRAL
Coach: Nichole Justesen. 2011 record: 10-19. Outlook: Seven letterwinners return, led by senior OH Mackie Faris (155 kills last season) and senior MB Jackie Straube.
Coach: Amber Dolliver. 2011 record: 12-18. Outlook: Four starters return, headlined by 5-9 senior MB Alex Brockhaus who had 319 kills and 137 blocks a year ago. Also back are senior S Kayle Locke, sophomore OH Charlee Sindelar and senior OH Allison Wiebe.
Coach: Sarah Swartzendruber. 2011 record: 18-9. Outlook: A young team returns with the hope of taking the next step. Four returning starters are juniors — 5-9 Shelby Bruss (S/MB), 5-4 Caitlin Peterson (DS), 5-4 Carly Frazee (DS) and 5-10 Kourtney Kempkes (OH). 5-8 sophomore Klaire Phillips (OH) started as a freshman.
Coach: Fracia Workman. 2011 record: 6-21. Outlook: Should be improved with all but one starter back. Leading the way are 5-9 senior MB Erica Dorn (190 kills, 64 ace blocks), 5-9 junior RS Kelsey Buss (101 kills) and 5-2 junior S Jeryn Creek (336 assists, 211 digs).
Coach: Kelsea Blevins. 2011 record: 12-18. Outlook: 6-0 junior MB Alex Meyer averaged 2.4 kills per set a year ago. Other starters back are sophomore S Jaysa Hoins, senior OH Kendra Baker and senior RS Taryn Betka.
Coach: Jon Yost. 2011 record: 11-18. Outlook: Seven players are back with starting experience, led by 5-7 senior OHs Maria Van Kirk (260 kills) and Maryah Calkins (303 kills, 61 ace blocks), both three-year starters.
Coach: Kurk Wiedel. 2011 record: 18-8. Outlook: The Titans bring back 5-10 senior MB all-stater Bridgette Baden (349 kills) and a strong supporting cast around her. Senior S Tarryn Tietjen enters her second year as a starter and 5-8 junior OH Kelsey Long is healthy after an injury-riddled sophomore season. They’re among the five returning starters.
Coach: Brett Scheiding. 2011 record: 15-15. Outlook: The Trojans have three senior starters as their cornerstone — 5-8 OH Karli Weise, 5-5 OH Amber Collins and 5-6 L Sierra Stege.
Coach: Mary Mozena. 2011 record: 16-13. Outlook: Sophomore OH Marylyn Mozena (133 kills) is one of four starters back, joining 6-1 MB Kendall Guhl, senior S Kayla Jameson and junior OH Taylor Hermann.
