BEATRICE — Tyler Witt finished with 21 points and hit shots to extend the game twice as the Falls City Sacred Heart boys outlasted BDS 60-52 in double overtime in the MUDECAS A Division semifinals Friday at Beatrice City Auditorium.
The Irish had to rally twice, in the fourth quarter and in the first overtime, and Witt had a hand in both.
Sacred Heart trailed by three in the final seconds when Witt went up for two near the rim and was fouled. He got the bucket and the free throw to tie the game at 42-42.
BDS took a 48-44 lead late in the first overtime, but Drew Bippes cut it to one with a long three-pointer with 16 seconds remaining. After BDS made one free throw, FCSH got a chance to tie or win with 6 seconds left. That's when Witt curled around a defender near the three-point line, drove to the basket and scored a layup just before the buzzer to force a second overtime.
Sacred Heart took a 52-51 lead on Witt's three-pointer and Bippes extended the lead on a long jumper.
Bippes added 17 points. Caden Norder led BDS with 16 points.
Sacred Heart will play Freeman in Saturday's 8 p.m. championship at City Auditorium. Freeman defeated Johnson-Brock 59-28 in the other semifinal.
Johnson-Brock and BDS will meet for third place.
