Speechless.

That was Sarah Pavan’s reaction to being named the Academic All-American of the Year for the second straight year.

The former NU volleyball standout is the first repeat winner in the 20-year history of the award.

“When you look at the list of past Academic All-Americans of the Year, it is an impressive list,” Pavan said, “and to know that I was the first person to win the award twice, I am truly honored.”

Pavan edged finalists Rachel Buehler of Stanford soccer, Angela Tincher of Virginia Tech softball and Buster Posey of Florida State baseball to win this year’s honor.

Pavan, who graduated from Nebraska in May, has signed a contract to play professionally in Italy. She’ll begin play with Spes Volley of Conegliano this fall.
