Tackle Pasteur picks Huskers

Offensive lineman Brock Pasteur will fit perfectly into Nebraska's style of offense, said the player's position coach at Mesabi (Minn.) Range Central and Technical College.

"Offensive linemen in the West Coast offense are typically a lot leaner because they have to get back quickly when they pass block," David Wilson said. "Brock weighs about 305 pounds. But he looks like he weighs about 260."

After visiting the Nebraska campus this past weekend, the 6-foot-7 Pasteur decided to sign with the Huskers and play in 2005, he said Sunday. He started the last two seasons at tackle for Mesabi Range, helping lead the Norsemen to a 19-2 record during that span.

He'll have three years to play two at NU.

"Nebraska has me as their projected starter at left tackle," Pasteur said. "Their coaches said it was my choice between guard and tackle, but more than likely, I'll be a tackle."

Nebraska, 5-6 in 2004, was the first Division I-A school to offer Pasteur a scholarship for 2005, though he said he has received recent phone calls from, among others, Oklahoma, Arkansas, North Carolina State, East Carolina and Miami.

Husker assistant coach Scott Downing played the lead role in Pasteur's recruitment, Pasteur said. Downing apparently noticed Pasteur last year while trying to land a defensive end from Mesabi Range, Jeremy Coley, who eventually signed with Purdue.

"I like the fact that at Nebraska, everything's about football," Pasteur said. "I know that coaching staff will help me get to the next level."

Pasteur verbally pledged to Central Florida out of high school.

"But my grades weren't too good," he said in explaining why he wound up at Mesabi Range.

Pasteur, a junior college All-American in 2004, becomes the 25th player known to have committed to Nebraska's class of 2005 and the seventh junior college player. The Huskers last week received a commitment from offensive lineman Jordan Picou of Mount San Antonio (Calif.) College.

Nebraska returns 2004 starting right tackle Seppo Evwaraye and starting left guard Brandon Koch. The Huskers lost two starting o-linemen to graduation — left tackle Mike Erickson and right guard Jake Andersen.
