Nebraska starting middle linebacker Corey McKeon practiced Thursday, but his status for Saturday’s game against Texas remains uncertain, Husker coach Bill Callahan said.
McKeon’s availability probably will be determined today.
“It looks pretty good so far,” Callahan said.
McKeon, a 6-foot-1, 225-pound junior, suffered an apparent left ankle or foot injury early in the second half of last week’s game at Kansas State, left the contest and didn’t return. He practiced Tuesday and Wednesday, but was somewhat limited.
McKeon ranks second on the team this season with 37 tackles. If he were unable to play, junior Lance Brandenburgh would start in his place.
In other health-related news, Callahan said coaches haven’t determined whether Kurt Mann will return to the starting lineup at center. Mann, who missed five games because of mononucleosis, played extensively off the bench against K-State after Brett Byford made his sixth straight start.
SKY CAM: There will be at least one first Saturday at Memorial Stadium — the use of aerial views via Sky Cam as part of ABC’s coverage of the contest. A roving camera swoops over the field, buzzing across cables attached to various points of the stadium. Sky Cam was used during the Alamo Bowl last December, and one Husker said the camera drops surprisingly low overhead.
VISITORS: A group of officials from the China Olympic Committee visited practice for a few minutes. The officials were on campus touring Nebraska’s new athletic facilities. Dr. Bob Chen, one of the group members preparing for the 2008 Games in Beijing, said American football isn’t really on the sports radar in China. “Only soccer,” he said.
ROZIER ON HAND: Former Husker I-back great Mike Rozier will be honored at halftime Saturday for his upcoming induction into the College Football Hall of Fame. Rozier officially will become the 13th NU player inducted, during ceremonies Dec. 5 in New York City. Rozier will be joined Saturday by four other Husker greats, each a Hall of Famer: Forrest Behm (1938-40), Rich Glover (1970-72), Johnny Rodgers (1970-72) and former coach Tom Osborne.
