As Nebraska pushes through week two of preseason camp, visitors attending Husker practices seem to be taken by tight ends coach Ron Brown's aggressive and intense on-field approach to his job.

“We don't run out of bounds at Nebraska!,” he recently shouted toward one of his players.

Brown is in his second stint with the Cornhuskers. He was an assistant coach under Tom Osborne and Frank Solich from 1987 to 2003.

Brown will turn 52 in November and shows no signs of slowing down. It appears he’s as intense as ever.

After a few years away from coaching, what does he feel like as the Aug. 30 opener nears?

“I’ve done this enough to where I know that every day is a big day,” Brown said after Monday’s practice. “I don't skip too far ahead. I skip to the next day. But that's as far ahead as I get.

“I've got young tight ends, and so it's a process that's developmental,” he said. “Not only one day, but one play at a time.”

NU’s top two tight ends on the preseason depth chart entering camp were sophomore Mike McNeill and redshirt freshman Ryan Hill. McNeill sat out Monday with an injury. It did not appear to be serious.
