Nebraska I-back Cody Glenn has been hobbled in recent practices by a foot injury, Husker coach Bill Callahan said Wednesday.
“I know he tweaked that foot a little bit (Nov. 11 at Texas A&M),” the coach said following practice at Memorial Stadium. “We’re doing everything we can to get him on the field for Friday.”
Nebraska plays Colorado at 2:30 p.m. in Lincoln.
The 6-foot, 230-pound Glenn, a sophomore from Rusk, Texas, carried six times for 25 yards and two touchdowns in Nebraska’s 28-27 triumph at A&M. He has played in a reserve role for most of the season.
Two Nebraska starting offensive linemen — right tackle Matt Slauson (ankle) and left guard Greg Austin (knee) — returned to practice Wednesday and may play Friday, Callahan said.
“We’ll take a look at them Friday morning,” the coach said. “We’ll come to the stadium and work them out and make a decision at that time.”
GOOD GRADES: A conference-leading 15 Huskers were named first-team Academic All-Big 12, the league office announced. A total of 22 Huskers received either first- or second-team recognition.
NU senior fullback Dane Todd was one of two players honored for having a cumulative 4.0 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale). Todd, a Lincoln Southeast graduate, is a strong candidate to be named an Academic All-American for the second consecutive year.
A GPA of 3.20 or higher was required for first-team All-Big 12 status.
Todd was one of five Nebraska players who made the first team for the third time in their careers. Others were senior center Kurt Mann, junior tight end J.B. Phillips and senior safeties Brandon Rigoni and Andrew Shanle. Making their second career first-team appearances were junior linebacker Lance Brandenburgh and sophomore wide receiver Todd Peterson.
The Huskers making their first first-team appearance were senior defensive end Adam Carriker, sophomore offensive guard Andy Christensen, sophomore place-kicker Jordan Congdon, senior linebacker Andy Kadavy, senior offensive tackle Newton Lingenfelter, sophomore safety Matt O’Hanlon, sophomore defensive end Zach Potter and sophomore punter Dan Titchener.
STATUS CHANGE: Jordan Adams, listed in this year’s Nebraska media guide as a junior, will heretofore be listed as a senior and will join 18 other seniors in being honored before Friday’s game. He played quarterback at Grossmont (Calif.) College in 2003, sat out as a redshirt at Nebraska in 2004 and was a reserve QB for the Huskers in 2005. He switched to safety this past spring.
TOYS FOR TOTS: A Toys for Tots collection drive will be held Friday at Memorial Stadium. Fans coming to the game are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate at the gates. Members of the U.S. Marine Corps will be on hand to collect donations for children in the Lincoln area. Husker fans also can give cash to the Toys for Tots Drive if they prefer.
ETC.: Nebraska plans to play host to 10 recruits Friday, Callahan said. … The Huskers had a team dinner Wednesday night and today will stick to their usual routine for the day before a game. … Callahan and several players visited area hospitals Wednesday. “It was an opportunity to visit a lot of people not as fortunate as us, not feeling as well,” the coach said. “It was a good opportunity to spread some good cheer amongst the people.”
