Nebraska tight end Justin Tomerlin was arrested early Sunday morning for driving under the influence, according to Lincoln police Capt. David Beggs. The 6-foot-6, 265-pound Tomerlin, a 2005 transfer from Butler County (Kan.) Community College, was stopped at 1:26 a.m. near First Street and Cornhusker Highway for changing lanes three times without signaling. His blood-alcohol content was 0.11, Beggs said. The 23-year-old Tomerlin, a native of San Clemente, Calif., sat out last season as a redshirt.
BASEBALL: Single-game general admission tickets for University of Nebraska home baseball games will go on sale to the public beginning today. General admission tickets for all regular-season home games are $7 for adults and $5 for youths in high school or younger or for senior citizens ages 60 or older. General admission tickets are free for children ages six and younger and for University of Nebraska students who display a valid student identification card.
SOFTBALL: The 18th-ranked Nebraska softball team will play a doubleheader today against Missouri Western. First pitch is set for 3 p.m., with the second set to begin at 5 p.m. at Haymarket Park’s Bowlin Stadium. Admission is free. It is believed to be the earliest home game in the 31-year history of Nebraska softball. The Griffons, a Division II school, are 4-2 this season and feature assistant coach Leigh Suhr (a former Husker) and a pair of pitchers who were Nebraska high school stars — Dana Wertz (Lincoln Southeast) and Kristi Warneke (Missouri Western).
WOMEN’S GOLF: The Nebraska women’s golf team jumped 13 spots to No. 38 in the latest national rankings. The Huskers, who are also 38th in the Golfweek ratings that were released Sunday, got a boost from their finish at the Central District Invitational Feb. 20-21 in Parrish, Fla. In that event, NU finished ahead of five teams that were ranked ahead of them in the polls. Nebraska has placed in the top five in six of its seven tournaments with a 302.6 stroke average.
