Brandon Thompson — a 285-pound offensive tackle from The Woodlands (Texas) High School — is Nebraska's 24th commit for the 2008 class.
The Huskers picked up another oral commit Tuesday, this one from down in Texas.
Brandon Thompson — a 6-foot-6, 285-pound offensive tackle from The Woodlands High School — becomes Nebraska’s 24th known commit for the 2008 class.
He runs the 40 in 5.08 seconds, can bench press 340 and squat 500 pounds. His vertical is 31 inches.
“He can dunk a basketball and do lots of things guys his size can’t do,” said his high school coach, Mark Schmid.
The Woodlands is kind of a powerhouse in Texas prep football. The school has made the playoffs 12 straight years in Class 5A, the state’s highest classification.
Schmid said NU offensive coordinator Shawn Watson was the main Husker assistant to recruit Thompson.
Oklahoma State, Purdue, Northwestern and Texas Tech were among the other schools courting him.
He is rated a 3-star by both Scout.com and Rivals.com. Scout ranks him as the 41st best offensive tackle. Rivals ranks him 53rd.
Why did Schmid think Thompson picked the Huskers?
“Just the tradition at Nebraska was something that was really intriguing,” he said. “And the offensive linemen that had played at Nebraska was something intriguing. And I think Coach (Bill) Callahan and his ties to the NFL was something he was very excited about.”
