LUBBOCK, Texas Nebraska offensive lineman Jake Andersen collected two tackles in Saturday night's 70-10 loss to Texas Tech.
Only 342 more to go to catch Barrett Ruud.
A senior linebacker, Ruud unofficially recorded nine tackles and broke Nebraska's career tackles record, held previously by Jerry Murtaugh, who played from 1968-70.
Ruud tied Murtaugh's record with a tackle on a kickoff following Nebraska's touchdown. He broke it with his unassisted stop of Jarrett Hicks on a 5-yard pass late in the third quarter, setting up a Texas Tech touchdown.
"I never even thought about it until somebody brought it up after the game," said Ruud, who obviously wasn't overjoyed about the record following Nebraska's worst loss ever. "I probably won't think about it again until the next game."
Ruud has 344 career tackles. Andersen's two tackles both came following Nebraska interceptions.
DYCHES AGAIN: David Dyches replaced Sandro DeAngelis at place kicker after DeAngelis missed a kick. Sound familiar? The same thing happened last year, when Dyches missed an extra point and lost his starting job the rest of the season to Dyches.
DeAngelis, a senior, has had a second chance this season. But after his 43-yard field goal attempt in the first quarter hit the right upright, he was unseated again.
This time, Dyches, a sophomore, came on in the second quarter to boot a 46-yard field goal - a kick that barely cleared the crossbar, but was still good. DeAngelis, though, re-entered to kick the extra point after NU's lone touchdown.
BOWL REP PREPARED: A representative from the Tangerine Bowl was outside the Nebraska locker room Saturday night, waiting to speak to some coach or representative from the NU athletic department.
He was shaking his head, realizing nobody wearing Nebraska red would probably be in a good mood to see him.
Ah, but he was prepared.
"I'm a lawyer," the man said, "so I get to deal every day with people after unhappy events."
