Last year’s national champion, Penn State will for the second year in a row play host to an NCAA women’s volleyball regional.
The NCAA chose Penn State, Colorado State, Texas and Washington to host regionals in December. Colorado State is the only first-time host to the event.
“When we were selecting these sites, we really wanted to focus on attendance history and attendance potential,” said Marie Robbins, chair of the Division I selection committee. “We know they will help us continue to grow this championship.”
Since the NCAA went to pre-determined regional sites in 2003, only Florida has hosted a regional in back-to-back years. The Gators are the only team to host a regional three of the last five years.
Winners of this year’s four regions will advance to the final four Dec. 18 and 20 at Qwest Center Omaha. As host to the championships, Nebraska was not eligible to host a regional this year.
Nebraska was selected for a 2009 regional, along with Florida, Minnesota and Stanford.
The 2009 final four is set for Tampa, Fla. Nebraska’s 2009 regional will be played Dec. 11-12 at Qwest Center Omaha.
