Eshaunte Jones, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard says he's leaning towards enrolling at Nebraska
Eshaunte Jones said he’s scheduled to visit Kentucky next week.
“But,” Jones said Sunday, “there’s a big chance I’ll commit to Nebraska by the end of the week.”
If that’s not a good enough indication that Jones’ weekend visit to Lincoln went well, then hear what else the prep school standout had to say about his trip.
“I just had a ball,” said Jones, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Fort Wayne, Ind. “I just had the time of my life there. It’s one of my favorite visits I ever took.”
And that from a player who’d originally committed to Indiana in the fall of 2006. He instead went to Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia, where he played last season. He then signed with Oregon State but was released from his letter of intent when the school changed coaches.
“It seems like Nebraska would be a great fit for me,” Jones said. “Coach (Doc) Sadler was real honest with me. I’ve heard so many great things about him.”
Jones said he needed to visit with his family before making any final decision. He could sign with Nebraska immediately and join this year’s recruiting class. Sadler is looking to replace Roburt Sallie, who’d signed with Nebraska but last month was ruled ineligible by the Big 12 Conference.
As a high school senior at Fort Wayne North Side, Jones was the state of Indiana’s third-leading scorer, averaging 28 points per game. He shot nearly 42 percent from the field and was a first-team all-state player.
“If Nebraska gets him, he will be, in my opinion, one of the best players to ever play at Nebraska,” said Eric Vaughn, Jones’ AAU coach. “He’s one of those players that has ‘it,’ whatever ‘it’ is.”
