Four Nebraska Wesleyan runners finished in the top nine to lead the Prairie Wolves to the GPAC women's cross country championship Saturday in Fremont.
Concordia won the men's title.
Wesleyan senior Jackie Spelts won the women's race, finishing the 5,000-kilometer course in 17 minutes, 53.85 seconds. The Prairie Wolves' Haley Sutter finished second in 18:29.75 and Hannah Kinberg was sixth in 18:37.15. NWU sophomore Katie Nelson finished ninth in 18:49.53.
Concordia's Jena Schwalenberg finished third in 18:32.88 to lead the Bulldogs to second place.
Morningside was third, Northwestern fourth and Doane fifth. Concordia and Morningside received automatic berths to the NAIA Championships.
In the men's race, Concordia Zach Meineke (24:53.61) and David Goeglein (24:59.65) finished 1-2 on the 8,000-kilometer course.
The Bulldogs had three other runners finish in the top 10 - Dana Schmidt (sixth, 25:33,89), Tyson Billings (seventh, 25:36.95) and Jon Grotefendt (10th, 25:41.07).
Concordia finished with 26 points. Wesleyan was second (72) and Doane third (80). Concordia and Doane earned the automatic team berths.
Doane's Edwin Ronoh finished third in 25:18.46 and Sufian Kimo fourth in 25:19.41.
Wesleyan's top performer was Logan Watley, who finished fifth in 25:23.58.
The NAIA Championships are Nov. 21 in Vancouver, Wash.
