Former Husker Alex Gordon will return to Rosenblatt Stadium on Friday as part of a rehab assignment with the Triple-A Omaha Royals.
Gordon, Kansas City's first-round draft pick in 2005, played in just seven games with the big league club before undergoing surgery on April 17 to repair torn cartilage in his right hip.
He began a rehab assignment Friday with the Surprise Royals in the rookie-level Arizona League. In three games through Monday, Gordon was 2-for-7 with a home run and three RBIs.
Club officials said Gordon is expected to play in just this Friday's game with Omaha before continuing his rehab stint with Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
Friday's game with New Orleans is set for 6:35 p.m. The annual Grucci fireworks display will follow.
