With SO many child care options available, how can a parent be sure they are choosing the right one? Is there really any way to differentiate between programs and choose the best one? At Academic Advantage, we believe there is…. we invite you to search for the advantages for your child, yourself, and your community.
Academic Advantage is founded on the belief that children need early developmental opportunities... socially, emotionally, and academically; from which they will benefit. Through the use of age-appropriate educational activities, we help give your child an advantage as he or she takes the first steps into the world of school. In addition, we focus on sharing basic morals and values of life… the lessons that will shape who your child becomes in the future, as a successful well-balanced individual.
A classroom style structure is utilized, with a child to teacher ratio that frequently helps foster one-on-one learning while challenging a child to reach for their highest growth potential. Teachers have flexibility in their lesson planning to look at each child and adapt as needed to their skill sets and preferred learning style. Watching children advance is a fantastic reward for our teachers, as we hire those individuals who have a goal of making a difference in the lives of children and strive for that accomplishment each day.
As a parent, one of the most stressful aspects of your life may well be leaving your child during the day to go to work. We want to give you a peace of mind about your child’s well-being and safety while you are away. We use a video surveillance system, which records each classroom, all the time. In addition, we have password protected entrances and all our teachers are CPR certified.
We also offer simple conveniences such as mail drop off and stamp purchases, as needed.
AND… we offer up to 2 WEEKS (10 days) of unpaid sick/vacation leave for your child. You can use them as individual days, or as a week at a time, whatever works for your family. You get to use them when YOU need to! What an advantage to have that flexibility for 2 weeks a year!
As a locally owned business, AACDC offers the advantage of owners and directors who will know you and your children personally, and who will truly care about YOUR family’s well-being and needs. In addition, the owners of AACDC, Kirsten McMann and Brooke Rossman, are involved in the community by joining the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, Early Childhood Committees, working with local businesses, participating in classes provided by NHHS, SCC and UNL, and working on national accreditation. The quality of AACDC is ensured by the on-site presence of the owners each day, in addition to the highly qualified teachers in each classroom. Our Lead Teachers must have completed (or nearly completed) an ECE or Teaching Degree, or have 10+ years of experience in a child care setting.
Please, come spend some time at Academic Advantage CDC! Walk-in inquiries and Tours are highly encouraged from 9am- 5pm, or by appointment. We look forward to showing you “The Advantage”.
Teaching, Nurturing and Developing the Future...One Child at a Time.
Academic Advantage was founded with a simple goal in mind: providing high quality educational care for children, a warm, welcoming place to visit each day, and peace of mind for parents, all at a reasonable price. It is difficult to watch a child struggle in school or making friends; at AACDC we strive to encourage children’s natural love of learning from birth and embrace our friends as extended family, creating a fantastic environment in which to grow up, socially, emotionally and academically.
Our curriculum is highly interactive and individually based. Teachers provide guidance, daily lessons, themes and physical goals. Each age group program offers at least nine core themes: Art, Music, Science, Language (including Spanish and/or Sign Language), Reading Readiness/Literacy, Math Readiness, Sensory, Large/Small Motor Skills, and Group/Circle Time. Throughout the lessons teachers also incorporate a constant focus on social skills along with emotional and physical growth.
AGE GROUP PROGRAMS:
INFANT CLASSROOMS (Inf 1: 6 weeks – 12 months / Inf 2: 12-18 months)
The Foundation of Learning Begins…
Children are never too young to begin the learning process; the younger a child is when learning, the better. Research has shown that the first year of life is when our brain synapses are the most impressionable! We work with infants to grow leaps and bounds in this wonderful first year.
Infants thrive in our highly interactive environments. They can explore the world around them, listen to books read aloud, get exposure to music, sensory activities and one on one communication. Our programs will get their educational experience off to a great start.
In order to aid in a smooth transition from home to our center, feeding and sleeping schedules are kept as close to home as possible. Parents are ALWAYS welcome to visit too! A daily log is kept and provided to parents at the end of each day, so you know all the fun and interesting parts of your child’s day.
TODDLER CLASSROOMS (Toddler 1: 18 – 27 months / Toddler 2: 27 – 36 months)
Realizing the world is a BIG place...
As children begin to gain independence, they also become much more inquisitive about the world itself and how it works. At Academic Advantage, preschoolers are encouraged to explore the world and find answers to many of their questions through research, interaction, science and sensory experiments, and cause and effect, . The preparation for Kindergarten begins and ends, as AACDC teachers help children begin to recognize numbers, letters, sounds, colors, shapes, sizes and how these all interact together to teach us about life and our wonderful planet Earth. In addition, Preschoolers and Pre-Kindergartners begin to develop the emotional skill of empathy along with the social skills of putting others’ needs before their own and taking turns. Books, discussions, games and field trips add to an exciting, educational time at AACDC.
Parents are always welcome and are kept informed through daily and weekly communication from teachers about lesson plans, activities and daily events!

AM Preschool, Part Time Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten Options
Finding quality learning environments for children who do not need all day care can be difficult. At AACDC, we realize that all children need to experience important growth in order to prepare for Kindergarten and the upcoming years. Social skills are enhanced through group play, and academics are encouraged by positive experiences with others of the same age group . Therefore, we do offer part time Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten options! If you are interested in any of these options, please call your preferred AACDC center to talk about schedules and tuition options... we have many!
SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN: (for Kindergarten graduates and older)
Providing Safety and Support…
The Pre-Teen years can be quite difficult for many of today’s youth. Children struggle between wanting freedom and needing support and guidance. At AACDC, school age children are helped through challenges and encouraged to become positive influences on each other and the community around them. Children can attend before and after school and also during most non-school days and the summer, winter, spring and fall breaks. After school, children may choose to work on homework, talk about school, play games, make art projects, have some outside time, eat a healthy snack, relax and interact socially with other kids in their age groups. Most importantly, parents know that their children are safe at Academic Advantage. What a relief!
Encouraging Year Around Learning and Fun…
One of the major concerns for parents is how to keep a school age child busy during the summer. Children who are used to learning all day, often find themselves “bored” after only a few weeks (or even days!) out of school. At AACDC, we offer a summer program designed to excite children, encourage learning through field trips, games, weekly themes, fun events, and pretty much wear them out so they are not “bored” at all! Age appropriate activities are utilized, math challenges, book reading, and other fun incentives are provided as well – to keep learning during the Summer Break. Children can celebrate Back-to-School time with a fun End of Summer Party as well!
This program will take care of summer boredom, while reassuring parents that their children are safe! For more information on the Summer Program, please call us. SUMMER PROGRAMS fill quickly! SUMMER PROGRAM ENROLLMENTS will begin February 1st each year.
Other classes and events are offered as well throughout the year (all are optional). Some are provided by outside companies using our facility for weekly classes. Please watch for informational posters and handouts throughout the year for further information.

Assessing our progress is important. As children move through each class, we watch for certain achievements and also do class assessments as needed. Children each grow very differently, but they can all be assessed individually based on their accomplishments and areas of development.
Parents can rest assured that we do not label children or make assumptions, however, we do offer progress reports and help as requested, when a child shows signs of advancement or needs. We often work with LPS or Headstart, to help children, as well as other professionals in a variety of situations. The success of each child is of the utmost importance to us. The younger we can help to identify needs, the better a child’s success rate.
Our center and classrooms are also assessed based on ITERS/ ECHRS. One of our co-owners is trained in these assessment scales and is in process of evaluation of each individual classroom throughout our corporation.
AACDC is currently working on the initial steps of the process of attaining NAEYC Accreditation.
Parent Surveys are conducted to assess how classes are going and how parents feel about current levels of academics, activities and teaching staff.
Parent-teacher conferences and report cards are offered, typically on an annual or as-needed basis. If you would like an assessment of your child, please let us know, as we are happy to do these when requested as well.
