Free speech

The Journal Star and writer Chris Dunker are to be commended for the article ("Faculty: Politicians using incident to damage university," Nov. 28) that summarizes the history of the current free speech debate surrounding the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

The article reports that, as of Oct. 31, "UNL was taking steps to make all students feel welcome on campus." This means that those steps had not been pursued vigorously before Oct. 31.

The statement, viewed in light of the incident of Aug. 25, is a direct admission of the lack of free speech on campus. Case closed. Hoist on their own petard.
