In the light of the plethora of accusations of sexual impropriety, from the president down to and out toward numerous persons in many arenas, these words of Alexander Pope (1688-1744) seem straight on target, with a warning:

“Vice is a monster of so frightful mein, As to be hated, needs but to be seen; Yet seen too oft, familiar with her face, We first endure, then pity, then embrace.” — Essay on Man, Epistle 2, line 220.

Dwight and Margaret Ganzel, Lincoln
