Malik Morris is no stranger to the state high school track and field meet.
The Parkview Christian student-athlete qualified for the Class D-2 state meet in three events as a junior and was part of the Patriots’ state-qualifying 4x100 relay.
What he hasn’t experienced, however, is winning a medal at the state meet. That could likely change in his senior season this spring.
As a junior, Morris qualified for state in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and the high jump, and ran on the state meet-qualifying 4x100 relay. He’s in his third year at Parkview Christian, having transferred from Lincoln High after his freshman year.
“Malik has a strong possibility of going in multiple events again this year,” said Jason Palmer, principal/activities director at Parkview Christian School.
Most of relay back
Three-fourths of the Patriots’ state-qualifying 4x100 relay returns this spring in the form of Trevor Polivka, Andrew Smith, and Morris.
In a Feb. 16 phone interview, Morris said he feels his strongest events are the 100-meter dash and high jump. The 6-foot, 160-pound student-athlete was also a wide receiver/defensive back in football and a shooting guard in basketball.
In basketball games played through mid-February, he was averaging 12 points and 5 rebounds per game.
Looking forward to his senior track season, Morris said he’s set goals of :10.9 in the 100, :22.8 in the 200, and 6-feet-4 in the high jump.

Beyond high school, Morris plans to enroll in college and major in engineering. He hopes to play basketball or compete in track at the next level.
