The 2017 USBC Women’s City Tournament was held at Hollywood Bowl in November. The team champion was Inconsistent (Amy & Julia Peterson, Anthia Salmen, Kay Sherbeck) with a four-member score of 2,667. High scratch champions were No F’ in Strikes (Molly Murphy, Christy Magorian, Laura Kerkman, Mandy Lathan) with 2,347. Handicap doubles champions were Tara Meyer & Roxanne Graham with 1,352 and scratch champions were Britany Porter & Jen Miseno with 1,315.
In singles, Jen Miseno won both handicap and scratch with 733 and also won all-events with 2,099. Recently, Jen has been bowling left-handed because of problems with her natural right handed delivery, but decided to bowl right handed in the tournament, despite the pain.
Congratulations to all the 2017 City Tournament champions.
The Sandhills tournament lived up to its reputation once again with a 200 average making the finals and only one competitor averaging 200 in the finals.
Alec Karr, 19-year-old sophomore at Midland University, conquered the tough conditions to win the 77th Sandhills at King Lanes in Norfolk. Lincolnite Mark Porter bowled a 268 in the ninth game of the finals to set up a winner-takes-all match with Alec in the 10th game position round. Alec averaged 206 in the finals to outdistance Mark Porter’s 196 finals average. Second was Matt Tomsu of Omaha, with Mark finishing third. Alec won $900 for the win with Matt receiving $500 and Mark $350. Other Lincoln cashers in the tournament were Steve Kirk 8th-$190 (finalist) and Rick Miller 14th-$135.
The next Sandhills Tournament is at Hollywood Bowl on Jan. 21 & 27, with finals Jan. 28. Qualifying rounds are 10 a.m. & 2:30 p.m. Jan. 21 & 27th. This is a great chance for Lincoln bowlers, as it normally takes around a 185 average to cash.
