True Dance & Company will present "The Event," a premiere of award-winning regional and national competition team dances, at 5 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 11) at Lincoln Southwest High School, 14th & Pine Lake Rd.

YAGP soloists will perform at 4 p.m. It will feature TDC's top graduating seniors - McKaylee True, Sarah DeBoer, and Kiley Tomes of Lincoln - along with 84 talented dancers ages 5 & up who are members of True Dance Company and TDC's YAGP soloists.

"The Event is a premiere of our upcoming 2018 competition team dances in jazz, lyrical, contemporary, musical theater, hip hop and tap and our YAGP soloists," said Shari True, who founded the dance school in 1980.

Upcoming travel

This spring and summer, the TDC company will travel to Denver, Kansas City, St. Louis, Omaha, and Indianapolis, and will attend nationals in Orlando, Florida, in July. True Dance Company has received national and regional awards for Technique, Showmanship, Choreography, Sportsmanship, and Entertainment, and Placed Overall with their routines.

TDC has earned many overall awards, and top placement awards in all genres of dance. The company consists of seven teams, from beginners to an elite level of dancers of all ages.

Shari True has created both amazing story ballets, fantastic routines for jazz, lyrical and contemporary for her company. Her school is unique in that she has developed a strong training ground for dancers who want to pursue all genres of dance, not just ballet. "Ballet is the foundation of all dance. If you have a good foundation, it will help your technique in jazz, lyrical, contemporary and musical theater as well," said True.

True has been the artistic director for over 37 years, assisted by Ashley Durst for over 15, and their outstate advisor/choreographer Nick Gomez, for four years. The staff includes an amazing lineup of talented teachers. Tickets $10.00/door, first-come, first-serve, while available. Doors open 30 minutes in advance.
