HAVELOCK - The Daisy thrift boutique, located inside the front door and up one level at Fresh Start, 6433 Havelock Ave., celebrates its 10th anniversary with special shopping events each Friday and Saturday in August. The official party is Aug. 26, with treats, free raffle tickets and other surprises.

All proceeds from The Daisy support Fresh Start, a transitional shelter for women moving out of homelessness. A team of clever, enthusiastic volunteers manages and operates the boutique. All have a keen eye for quality fashionable women’s clothing, accessories, home décor, and those unique items Daisy customers have come to expect.

The Daisy opened its doors Aug. 25, 2007. Besides generating funds to support the shelter, part of The Daisy’s original purpose was to provide employment training for women served by the shelter. While training is no longer a focus, The Daisy remains Fresh Start’s most consistent funding source. By its first anniversary, proceeds topped $11,000; in 2009, $17,000, and $43,000 in 2015 — truly remarkable, considering The Daisy’s limited hours (10 a.m. to 4 p.m. most Fridays and Saturdays, and one Thursday night a month). Boutique merchandise comes from the donations received from generous members of the community.

If you haven’t heard of The Daisy, it may be because Daisy shoppers like to keep this gem to themselves and scoop up great finds hand-selected by Daisy volunteers. The anniversary celebration is the perfect time for new customers to join in The Daisy shopping experience and support Fresh Start at the same time.
