Jaden Shum, son of Doug and Diana Shum, is an 8th-grade student at St. Joseph’s School, 1940 S. 77th St. School officials said: “Jaden was nominated for his positive attitude and classroom leadership. Jaden is a hard worker and a friend to all.” He is a two-year member of Zoo Crew, a Stewardship Award recipient for service, and Maroon Honors Award member. He plays baseball, is a member of the school cross country and track and field teams, and is active in the Sum of Love youth group. He enjoys art, drawing, running, gaming, and sports.
Matthew Schlegelmilch, son of Joseph and Niki Schlegelmilch, is a 7th-grade student at Lux Middle School, 7800 High St. School officials said: “Matthew is a wonderful and very bright student. He asks thoughtful questions and is always engaged in instruction and activities at hand.” He is a WOW Award winner, Student of the Week (last year), participates in school fundraisers, and attends Sheridan Lutheran Church. He plays trombone in the Lux Band and Jazz Band, and is an accomplished swimmer. In 2017, he was a medalist at the Central Zone Swimming Championships in Rochester, Minnesota, and the state long-course champion in the 50- and 200-meter breaststroke. He was also was a Midwestern Top 8 finisher in 2013-2017.
Samantha Searcey, daughter of Jeff and Deb Searcey, is a 6th-grade student at Saint John’s Catholic School, 7601 Vine St. Her classroom teacher said: “Samantha is a very responsible, prayerful student who always gives her best effort and works hard to maintain high grades. She is recognized for her positive attitude and focused determination in the classroom.” She is the class representative for the Saint John’s Builders Club. She has won several athletic competitions as a member of the Magellan soccer team and the Timberwolves basketball team. She attends daily Mass, and enjoys time with family and friends, reading and sports.
Kelty Duval, daughter of Chad and Sherri Duval, is a 7th-grade student at Lux Middle School, 7800 High St. School officials said: "Kelty exemplifies the characteristics of a successful student. She is consistently on top of her schoolwork, organized and conscientious. In her interactions with others, she is kind, positive, respectful and helpful." She is a seven-year member of Girl Scouts, having earned her Bronze Award, and is a summer library volunteer. She is also a Link N Leader, a member of Honor Roll, and swims with the Greater Nebraska Swim Team (GNST).
