Lincoln Aztecs FC, a small soccer club, came up big in international tournament competition in Minnesota last month.
Competing in the USA Cup in Blaine, Minnesota, the Lincoln Aztecs U17 boys team won its division, topping a 14-team field. The champs survived the six tournament games undefeated, going 5-0-1 and defeating a Wisconsin team in the finals.
In addition, the Lincoln Aztecs U11 boys soccer team won one game and lost two in a highly populated age division filled with 38 teams in three divisions. Lincoln U11 competed in the A Flight.
Ricardo Noyola, coach of the Lincoln champs, said members of the tournament champion U17 team represent a number of schools including Lincoln High, Lincoln North Star, Lincoln Northeast, Dawes Middle School, Pound Middle School, Crete, and Grand Island.
