Labor Day weekend provided beautiful summer weather for the 36 golfers who participated in the annual Bingo Open golf fundraiser at Grandpa’s Woods Golf Course near Elmwood, Nebraska.
The event is a fundraiser for the Nebraska Walleye Association Kids Fishing Clinics Charity, Inc. better known as "Fishing is Fun!" The $5,000 raised will be used by this non-profit charity teaching youth how to fish at clinics across Nebraska. About 20 clinics, including two for special-needs families, are conducted each year by certified instructors. Over 2,000 youth get hands-on training about how to fish and a free rod and reel to take home with them.
As always. the course was in great shape thanks to the owners, Mike and Cindi Craig. The top teams received a trophy, cash and prizes. All three teams gave their cash-prize money back to support the kids fishing clinics. The winning teams: 1st place - Steve Isom and Blake Thompson, 2nd place - Marty Carper and Rod Frear, 3rd place -Paul Porath and Kelly Pfarr.
There were multiple pin prizes and raffle drawings, including: golf balls and drivers, from Dixon Golf; a two-night cabin stay, from Nebraska Game & Parks; a putter from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad; golf lessons by Jonathan Benson; car washes from Cornhusker Car Wash; four season bouquets from Stem Gallery, and golf items from American Machine.
