“I Got Rhythm – music by George Gershwin” has been selected by Ed Love as his combo opens the 2017-18 First Friday Jazz season Oct. 6 at First Lutheran Church, 1551 S. 70th St. Ed Love, on saxophone, will be joined by Tom Haravill on piano, Hans Sturm on bass and Justin Jones on drums.
The performance marks the seventh season of this popular jazz series in the church Activity Center. It is free of charge and held between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Lunch will be available for purchase or guests can bring their own and stay as long as schedules permit.
A popular performer in the Lincoln and Midwest musical scene, Ed Love has been a member of the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra and leader of its saxophone section since 1978. A year later he was named music director, a position he still holds. His yearly appearance in the First Friday Jazz series is one of the highlights of the season and his music is always a crowd favorite.
The First Friday Jazz series continues Nov. 3 with the Darryl White Quartet. Future concerts will feature Camille Metoyer Moten, Group Sax, Peter Bouffard, Andy Hall and The Lightning Bugs.
These monthly concerts are offered by First Lutheran Church as its gift to the Lincoln community, as well as providing an east Lincoln location for performing jazz groups.
