Movie fever hit an all-time high at the Boys and Girls Club of Lincoln’s eighth-annual movie trivia fundraiser Nov. 13. Hosted by Duncan Aviation, the event raised more than $80,000 to fund the club’s summer program.
Union Bank, as the many faces of Jim Carrey, was crowned the 2015 trivia champion. “The Lego Movie” table of Scheels took home Best Costume, and Cornhusker Bank won Best Table Decoration for the third time for its “UP” themed table.
“It’s fun to see so many people having a good time and being able to make a significant difference for the Boys and Girls Club,” said Club President Jessica Erstad, wife of Husker baseball coach Darin Erstad.
Club members gave a high-five greeting to guests as they arrived. Motivational speaker and former Husker football player Aaron Davis served as emcee. Cordara Thompson, the club’s program director, told his inspirational life story.
In addition to the program and playing trivia, the evening included a Mexican-themed buffet, cocktails and a silent auction with items such as lunch with Coach Miles and Coach Erstad, a dinner party with Governor Pete Ricketts, a Southern California getaway, local dining experiences, tickets to various Husker sports, autographed sports memorabilia and more.
“This event continues to amaze me,” said Nick Dean, the club’s executive director. “The generosity and the spirit of people involved make me very proud to say I am with the Boys and Girls Club.”
Event sponsors included over 20 local businesses and individuals.
Since 2007, the club has been dedicated to ensuring that our community’s disadvantaged young people have greater access to quality programs and services that enhance their lives and shape their futures. With more than 1,200 members, the club serves 250 to 300 youth each day in after-school and summer programs.
