GRAND ISLAND -- Police said a car pulled from a lake in Grand Island was reported stolen just hours before it was found.
The car belongs to a man who reported it stolen at about midnight Sunday. The car was pulled from the lake Monday morning.
Police said people walking along a trail saw the trunk of the car sticking out of the water.
Sgt. Dale Hilderbrand said front-end damage, a broken headlight and black paint on the headlight lens indicate the car may have been involved in a crash with another vehicle before going into the lake. Investigators said the maroon Ford Taurus had no license plates. The trunk and a back door were opened, and all four windows were down.
