Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman has issued an emergency declaration for parts of the state affected by tornadoes and other severe weather.

Heineman announced the declaration Monday, and called the damage "extensive." He toured tornado damage in Wayne over the weekend.

Multiple tornadoes hit northeast Nebraska over the weekend. Several inches of snow also hit the Nebraska Panhandle. Lt. Gov. Lavon Heidemann and emergency officials will tour some of the damage there  Tuesday.

A massive, wind-whipped snowstorm hit the area beginning Friday. Officials said there was heavy tree damage along the U.S. 20 corridor between Rushville and Harrison.

Chadron and Crawford were especially hit, and officials said Chadron received 10 inches of snow.  Ranchers have reported heavy cattle losses to  freezing conditions.
