GENEVA -- A Davenport man accused of neglecting dozens of horses faces animal-cruelty and neglect charges in three Nebraska counties.

Norman Graves is set to appear in Fillmore County Court on Aug. 26 to face a felony charge of animal cruelty following the discovery of nearly 30 severely malnourished horses last month.

In May, Thayer County officials charged the 66-year-old Graves with two misdemeanor counts of animal neglect after authorities discovered malnourished horses in that county. An animal-cruelty case against Graves in Douglas County that began two years ago is pending.

The Thayer and Fillmore county cases involve 38 horses, nearly all of them thoroughbreds.

Fillmore County Sheriff William Burgess says the horses were near death when they were found.
