OSCEOLA — The city of Osceola has banned pit bulls and several other dogs it labels as “vicious.”
The ordinance takes effect Thursday and says the following dog types are forbidden inside city limits:
Staffordshire bull terriers, American pit bull terriers, American Staffordshire terriers, chows, Dobermans, Rottweilers, American Bandogge mastiffs and Neopolitan mastiffs.
Osceola officials say they know of only one such dog currently in their east-central Nebraska town.
Osceola Mayor Wendell Lindsley says that if local cat and dog owners would just be good citizens, it would go a long way toward solving Osceola’s problems with some pets.
The owner of a banned dog would have 48 hours to remove it from the city or the dog would be impounded.
