Just a simple question: Why was Talent Plus awarded a no-bid contract to select a new fire chief while Kenexa was not even invited to submit a proposal?
How can the city select one local company and completely ignore another local company? I’d like to hear the reasoning why Kenexa was not considered for the selection service.

Thanks, county snow crew
The recent hubbub about snow removal has inspired me to write this letter which I have been meaning to write for several years.
Thank you, Lancaster County snow removal crews, for doing such a great job year after year, storm after storm. It is comforting to know that I can depend on having the paved roads professionally cleared almost as soon as the snow stops and that the gravel road I live on won't be that far behind.
I tip my stocking cap to you. Thanks again from a satisfied resident of Hitching Post Hills.

Shame on Hagel
Shame on Sen. Chuck Hagel for claiming he and his “colleagues in the Republican party” reflect the views of the people they represent.
Certainly not my views, Mr. Hagel!
I am a staunch conservative Republican, a Bush supporter. I excuse his mistakes, and pray daily that he will continue to lead this country in winning the war — whatever it takes.
Hagel’s views align him as usual with the Democrats. Why can’t he just jump over the fence and join the party he really represents?
If he were to consider running in the 2008 presidential race, I would have to vote Independent!

It's the law
Our representatives passed the law so that qualified citizens of Nebraska can carry a handgun.
I don't think that anyone should be able to change that to fit their town or situation. We don't have the option to do the same thing in an opposite way. Does that mean that I can decide that the speed limit doesn't apply in my car?
There are some laws I don't agree with but they are the law nonetheless. They should have been involved with their representatives while it was being debated at the state Capitol, not after it passes and they don't like it.

Support safe-haven law
I was both pleased and shocked by a Lincoln Journal Star story from Jan. 18. Kudos to state Sens. Rich Pahls and Arnie Stuthman for introducing a measure in the Unicameral that would provide a safe haven for a newborn infant unwanted by their birth parent.
Who can read a story about a newborn being put in the garbage or toilet and not be horrified? Nebraska is one of only three states that doesn't have a safe haven law that allows a newborn to be left at a safe location with no questions asked. Please, state senators, this is a much needed law.
What was shocking about the story was that half of the article consisted of opinions of people who opposed the law. Opposed the law! I won't repeat much of their convoluted rationale, but suffice it to say, common sense was not part of any of the arguments.
One of the comments mentioned was that an infant safely left at say, a hospital, would be "deprived of ties to families of origin." Well, what a pity. Perhaps the baby would rather die than suffer such deprivation. What do you think?
If you agree with me, contact your state senator asking for their support for this legislation.
