1. Two stories on TV's Jon and Kate Gosselin getting a divorce generated the most comments on JournalStar.com this past week, with more than 70 posted.

Many commenters lambasted the celebrity mom for saying "The show must go on" even in the face of the couple's breakup. And a remarkable number of posters took the time to type in a comment to the effect of "Who cares!"

"Why don't they try quitting the show and working it out? I can't believe they would try to handle a divorce, which is already hard enough for young children, but then try to do that on national TV! Did they ever think that the TV show may have something to do with their current situation?" Family Lover asked.

2. Workplaces going to the dogs Friday; 67 comments.

It was a shock that this story on Take Your Dog to Work Day would turn controversial. But some early antidog posts got a heated debate going between dog lovers and those who don't want them around.

"Leave your dogs at home … they have no business being in a workplace. Dogs are annoying, loud, stink, full of slobber, stick their noses in areas they shouldn't and jump up on people when they don't want them to," Seriously said.

Jo said: "A person who doesn't like dogs is a person not worth knowing."

3. Lincoln police: Clerks at 7 stores sold to teen; 59 comments.

Commenters debated whether the police entrapped the clerks and whether the police should be spending their time on liquor compliance details.

"Once again … entrapment. Wouldn't it be easier to just randomly walk in and remind the clerks to be watchful, instead of a ticket? Or how about you ticket the underage youth that purchase it," ogre wrote.

Mike Honcho commented: "What a sad state of society we have reached … people have more sympathy for those breaking the law than for those enforcing it."

4. Letters, 6/23: Letter a scare tactic; 56 comments.

Todd Bowman's letter defended Sen. Mike Johanns' column on health care reform and said a public option would lead to a single-payer system.

"It is too bad that the health care reform needs of this country have been co-opted by Republican operatives as the divisive issue that can stall the movement for change promised in this term of Democratic leadership," Fearless wrote.

Karen commented: "I am a Republican … I am really tired of this and other issues being tied to whether you are of one party or another. We, first and foremost, are Americans! I do not want socialized medicine."

4. Time Warner, Comcast seek to curb free online viewing; 56 comments.

This one tied with the letters package for No. 4. Most commenters didn't think the cable giants should be able to restrict free online viewing.

"Honestly, if this were the cable companies seeking to combat illegal downloading of programs, I'd have some sympathy," Kevin said. "But the fact that they are seeking to penalize consumers based on legal choices they make is completely ridiculous."

Kw guy wrote: "This is a real conflict. On one hand the programs are the property of the originator. They can withhold the program or sell it as they wish. On the other hand the programs are like ringing a bell. Ring a bell and then run around town trying to charge everybody who heard the bell ring. Lots of luck."
