Keep Lincoln and Lancaster County Beautiful is looking for volunteers to participate in Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup, one of the nation’s largest community improvement programs with about 4 million volunteers participating in 30,000 community improvement projects in 16,500 communities.

In Lincoln, the program is part of the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department.

Last year, 1,100 local volunteers cleaned about 415 miles of roadway, the equivalent of driving from Lincoln to Omaha about eight times. They also cleaned about 230 acres -- the equivalent of cleaning Memorial Stadium 174 times -- and picked up about 105,000 pounds of trash and 64,000 pounds of recyclable material.

To volunteer, email kllcb@lincoln.ne.gov or call 402-441-8035.

Funds for cleanup projects are available through neighborhood association grants and Community Improvement Grants. More, lincoln.ne.gov (keyword: kllcb).
