The design and engineering firms who created the double roundabouts near Memorial Stadium have won an Honor Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Nebraska.

The award was presented at the council's Engineering Excellence Awards banquet Tuesday.

The project was designed by Olsson Associates of Lincoln, and the quality assurance and quality control for the roundabouts was handled by Ourston Roundabout Engineering.

"These are Lincoln's first multi-lane roundabouts that are seeing heavy traffic," Mayor Chris Beutler said in a press release. "They also are the first roadway improvements to be completed as part of the new traffic system for Pinnacle Bank Arena.

"This prestigious award recognizes the success of this important team effort."

The roundabouts along Salt Creek Roadway at Ninth and 10th streets opened Aug. 13.

The $2.9 million project was funded through the West Haymarket Joint Public Agency, and construction began after last April's spring football game.
